Taqueria Cielito Lindo is now serving authentic Mexican fare in the former digs of Julia’s Pizzeria & Restaurant in Riverhead. The place, offering both counter and table service, is owned by married couple Jasmin and Edgar Diaz-Leal, who are also its co-chefs.
Tortillas used for tacos are handmade using white corn flour, said Jasmin Diaz-Leal, who added that she and her husband plan to start using the pizza oven soon to bake the bread used to make the tortas (Mexican sandwiches) they offer.
On the menu: tacos with such fillings as chorizo, lengua (tongue) and chicken ($2.50 each), sopes (made with thicker tortillas than tacos) topped with your choice of meat (3 for $10), guacamole with chips ($6.50), a Cubana torta, or sandwich ($9) and a carne asada (grilled steak) platter ($10).
Jasmin Diaz-Leal’s family also owns Mexico Lindo, a Riverhead grocery featuring Mexican products, and the Mexican restaurant JR El Rodeo in East Moriches.
Taqueria Cieleto Lindo is at 29 E. Main St., Riverhead, 631-591-0732.
