New to Northport is Macadoo’s Grille, a casual counter-service spot under the same ownership as the adjacent Batata Cafe, which is also accessible through an interior door.
The menu here is simple and inexpensive: Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and a few “home style” (not slow-smoked) barbecue items, such as ribs, brisket and chicken.
What resonated with me was a really good pulled chicken sandwich ($5.95), which tasted as though the poultry had just been pulled from the bone before being moistened – not bathed – in barbecue sauce. Fresh corn on the cob accompanied. A turkey burger ($5.95), sadly, was overcooked and dry, but a side of sensational house-made potato chips saved the day. The addition of a side dish plus a soft drink here runs an additional $2.99.
Macadoo’s Grille is at 847 Fort Salonga Rd., Northport, 631-754-4442
