Rosticini, subtitled an “Italian grill on the run,” is up and running in a Glen Cove strip mall. Its menu of grilled marinated meats, both on and off wooden skewers, is augmented by salads, panini, heroes and entrees, the costliest of which — grilled marinated shrimp — is a mere $12.99.
I stopped in for lunch “on the run” and was impressed by the pezzi di pollo speziati ($4.99), two pieces of dark-meat chicken seasoned with a spicy rub and adroitly grilled. Two sides from the steam table behind the counter — “risotto” and string beans with tomatoes — were actually pretty good. So, too, was a combo platter of highly seasoned “rosticini,” Italian-style meat on a stick (also known as spiedini, $7.50) comprising lamb, beef and chicken. About that chicken: Wish it had been dark instead of white meat. Escarole and beans were much better than balsamic-logged grilled vegetables.
Counter service was friendly (your order is brought to your table) and surroundings — highlighted by murals of Italy — quite pleasant.
Rosticini is at 216 Glen St., Glen Cove; 516-676-2909.
