It's already looking like a busy season in Montauk. Add South Edison to the new eateries in town.
Todd Mitgang, whose resume includes Cascabel Taqueria and Kittichai in Manhattan, is the chef. His fare ranges from jerk-roasted Crescent Farm duck breast to cherry-cola braised pork belly, fried belly clams to lobster rolls, porgy a la plancha with roasted fennel and crab to grilled tuna finished with orange peel and crushed coriander.
South Edison is open for dinner Monday to Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Most main dishes are $18 to $34, with a burger weighing in at $16.50.
South Edison joins Navy Beach and the new-chef Montauk Yacht Club among the season's early entries at the very East End.
