Trattachino is not a real Italian word. It is, however, the made-up name of a 2-week-old restaurant that opened in Wantagh in the space that used to house Lounge Burger.

Chef owner Joseph Balbo, who spent the last few years cooking in Babylon at Babylon Carriage House, calls it a “New American style eatery with European sized portions." Sharing is encouraged.

Small plate selections include “angry” shrimp ($7) and braised beef short rib tortillas ($6). There are also pastas, like house made ravioli with braised beef ragu ($9) and truffled mac and cheese ($8). Among entrees: bacon wrapped veal tenderloin ($18), and pan -seared rare tuna ($17).

Balbo said he’s hoping to open other branches of Trattachino in the near future.
