Pan Asian panache

Since Long Island currently has no Vietnamese, Indonesian or Malaysian restaurant to call its own, a multitasking Asian dining spot may be the only place to go locally for a hint of what these compelling cuisines have to offer. At the following three, you'll find sushi, too.

Haiku Asian Bistro

At this Woodbury offshoot of a Westchester pan-Asian chainlet, there's a bustling sushi bar. You'll also find Malaysian red curry with chicken, Japanese stir-fried udon noodles and a Thai vegetarian spring roll.

Asian Moon

This spawn of a Garden City Asian restaurant has a sushi bar which produces a piquant yellowtail and jalapeño roll. Move on to fiery Thai hot and sour soup with shrimp, followed by chicken chow fun. Duck fajitas exemplify fusion fare.

Asian Moon: 4922 Merrick Rd., Massapequa Park, 516-799-8800, asianmoononline.com $$

Izumi

This stylish Asian venue serves sushi bar specialties, among them the multifish "fantastic" roll wrapped in white seaweed. Try the rock shrimp tempura, Malaysian chicken curry, Thai spicy squid and Singapore noodles.
