Fratello's Pizza, Pasta & Catering is serving pies, panini, pasta and parms in the Smithtown strip mall storefront that last housed La Pizzaiola. Chef/owner Richard Weindler, who previously cooked at Ladakins on Mill Pond in Moriches, said the 16-seat counter-service place mainly does a takeout business.
While the menu reads like so many others of that ilk -- chicken Marsala, baked lasagna, grilled chicken panino and meatball parm hero -- the list of specialty pizzas features a few less-conventional items. There's the Benedict "brunch" pizza ($21.95) featuring mozzarella, cheddar, Canadian bacon and poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. And there is the garlic knot pie, a Neapolitan number whose crust is ringed with baked-on garlic knots ($18.95).
Prices for individual dishes top out at $17.95 for shrimp Parmigiana; the costliest pizza, at $23.95, features shrimp scampi.
Fratello's Pizza & Pasta is at 60 Terry Rd., Smithtown, 631-979-7979
