For the fourth year in a row, Port Washington is honoring the Super Bowl with soup. The 2011 Souper Bowl (that would be Souper Bowl IV) takes place tomorrow from noon to 3 p.m. Here’s how it works: Dozens of local restaurants and takeout establishments set up tables to ladle out their best soups. You buy a spoon ($7 for adults and $3 for kids under 12) and then taste your way around. Two awards are given: a people’s choice and a judges' choice.
Participating restaurants include Amigos, Amsterdam at Harborside, Ayhan’s Fish Kebab, Ayhan’s Mediterranean Marketplace, Ayhan’s Shish Kebab, Bagel Boss Café, Finn MacCool’s, Frank’s Pizza, Harbor Links Golf Course (Grill Room), La Bottega, Louie’s Oyster Bar & Grill, Pepe Rosso 24, Port Washington Diner, Sullivan’s Quay, Stop & Shop, Toscanini and Wild Honey on Main.
Proceeds from the event support the town’s Twin Pines food pantry and fund projects overseen by the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce.
The Souper Bowl battle is joined at Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church, at 35 Middle Neck Rd., Port Washington. For more information, call 516-883-6566 or e-mail email@example.com.
