Let’s hear it for Roast Sandwich House in Melville, where chef-owners Joe Cordaro and Matthew Doyle just launched a breakfast menu. It's all about the egg sandwich, hardly the standard deli number; these guys are operating at another level entirely.
On a recent morning, I started my day with a Tuscan panino, $4.49: filled with scrambled eggs, smoked mozzarella, red peppers, spinach and truffle aioli. Loved that first bite, the crunch of grill-pressed bread and then the lush, fragrant confluence within. Very good, if not quite so stunning, was a friend’s Southwestern sandwich on ciabatta, $4.49: scrambled eggs, vegetables and cheese -- kicked up with spicy aioli.
A cardboard container of “trail mix” oatmeal, $2.99, came topped with nuts, apples, cranberries and a little maple syrup. Autumnal comfort food, for sure. Freshly roasted coffee, both regular and decaf, is from Georgio's Coffee Roasters in Farmingdale.
Breakfast runs Monday to Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m.
Roast Sandwich House is at 827 Walt Whitman Rd., Melville, 631-629-4869
