Off the Hook in East Northport has gone off the grid -- at least for now. Back in 2011, the kitschy-casual seafood market/restaurant took over the former Jeff's Seafood & Galley. Amid fish nets and ropes, there was food worth remembering. Chef Chris Fusaro turned out moist, spicy blackened flounder and expertly grilled miso teriyaki-glazed salmon. Fine crabcakes, too.
But Fusaro hasn't completely abandoned ship. In fact, he's getting set to open a new version of Off the Hook in Massapequa Park. Former owner Frank Catalano said that he will soon be working for his old chef, who is also his nephew. The seafood market and restaurant will be smaller than the original but with a contemporary nautical look and an open kitchen. Watch for updates.
Meanwhile, the building that housed Off the Hook and several other businesses is slated to be replaced by a bank. One eatery that has relocated in another part of the same shopping center is Mozzarella's Pizza. Owner T.J. Magden said his new location is larger and more attractive than before. In addition to pizzas by the slice and pie, he also offers such dishes as chicken Parmigiana ($11.95) and chicken Francese ($12.95), both served with a salad, pasta and bread. The place is running a special of grilled salmon served with either grilled vegetables or an arugula salad ($12.99). Order at the counter and your food will be brought to you.
Mozzarella's Pizza is now at 1937 E. Jericho Tpke., East Northport, 631- 462-0600
