When Steve Cardello opened Reel Kitchen in Kings Park last year — the sophomore project following the three-star Relish, nearby — he started by selling a rotating selection of the catch of the day for home cooks, prepared food and eat-in or takeout dishes from a menu that included steamed littleneck clams, fried scallops, lobster rolls, and fish and chips.
Over the course of the year, he realized the place was missing something that’s a no-brainer for a fish market: sushi.
This week, Reel Kitchen debuts Reel Sushi, an addition to the regular menu that includes raw fish appetizers, sashimi, and standard and specialty rolls.
Prices range from $3 to $12 for appetizers, $3 to $5 for sushi and sashimi a la carte, $4 to $20 for standard and specialty rolls, and $25 to $50 for sushi platters.
Like the rest of Reel Kitchen’s offerings, sushi is available to go or for dining in. Take note: The place has limited seating, with three tables of three inside and a few spots outside.
The hours of Reel Kitchen have recently changed. It is now open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Sushi is available every day except Sunday.
Reel Kitchen is located at 112 Main St. in Kings Park; 631-460-4175, reelkitchen.com
