After 15 years, Wantagh’s popular Snaps American Bistro has spawned a spinoff. A second Snaps has opened right across from Rockville Centre’s AMC Fantasy 5 movie theater.
Snaps was opened by Scott and Patty Bradley in 2004, in a nondescript little shopping center on a side street south of Sunrise Highway. The location, with little parking and less foot traffic, nevertheless became one of Wantagh’s most popular restaurants. Scott, the chef, created a menu that blends trends and global flavors to arrive at crowd pleasers such as crispy chicken teriyaki wontons with soba noodles, chipotle-braised chicken tacos, lobster knuckle sandwich, shrimp and spaghetti pomodoro, lobster-crusted filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, roasted kale salad with almonds, pear, goat cheese, prosciutto and lemon-truffle dressing. Regular weekly specials include $5 taco night (Tuesdays), $5 fried chicken night (Wednesdays) and $5 burger night (Thursdays).
The Rockville Centre location will, eventually, have an almost identical menu to Wantagh. For the moment about half the Wantagh items are available.
The North Park Avenue location that Snaps takes over was, from 2006 to 2016, George Martin Grillfire, followed by GM Club Steak and, a year later, The Tavern by George Martin, which closed last month.
Snaps is at 13 N. Park Ave, Rockville Centre, 516-517-2525, snapsrestaurant.com.
