Barely two weeks old, the new Ssambap Korean BBQ in Stony Brook brings something new to the area: tabletop barbecue, along with an extensive roster of Korean specialties. I stopped by and found an attractive space with beautifully wrought wood canopies and beams.
On the menu: Seafood and scallion pancake ($7.50), jap chae, or stir-fried potato noodles with vegetables and beef ($15), bibimbap, or seasoned vegetables with ground beef and fried egg ($14), and bulgoki, or short rib, to be cooked by diners on a tabletop grill before being placed atop a lettuce leaf spread with bean paste, rolled and eaten ($23).
House rule: You need a minimum of two diners per table in order to opt for tabletop BBQ.
Ssambap Korean BBQ is at 2350 Nesconset Hwy., Stony Brook, 631-675-6402.
