Along and near the St. Patrick's Day parade routes are enough restaurants to fortify any observer. Corned beef and cabbage, of course, is the big dish in the Irish-American holiday menu, and you'll find it almost everywhere. But there are some surprises, too.

Here's a sampler in the vicinity of five parades.

Westhampton Beach

Finn McCool's $$

101 Riverhead Rd., 631-998-3271

This Gaelic spot got an upgrade when Gordon Ramsay visited in 2007. For St. Patrick's Day, the signature chicken potpie is topped with a filo-dough shamrock. Also on offer: good shepherd's pie, corned beef and cabbage, corned-beef-and-cabbage spring rolls and, on tap, Port Jefferson Station's own Long Ireland Celtic Ale, as well as Guinness and Harp Lager.

Hampton Coffee Company $

194 Mill Rd., 631-288-4480,

The parade passes right by Hampton Coffee Company, which roasts its beans in small batches just down the road in Water Mill. In addition to coffee drinks, St. Patrick's Day specials will include Irish Crème coffee, Leprechaun Lattes, corned-beef Reuben panini and green-and-white cookies.

Funcho's Fajita Grill $

127 Main St., 631-288-2408,

If a Latin beat weren't welcome on St. Patrick's Day then why is the Brazilian-inflected percussion band Samba de Escola Boom featured in the Westhampton Beach parade? To continue the theme after the parade, repair to Funcho's, for such specialties as burritos, quesadillas, tacos (soft and hard), fajitas and salads. Full children's menu too.

Bay Shore and Brightwaters

Jon Thomas Inne $$

91 Howells Rd., Brightwaters, 631-666-2060,

There will be corned beef and cabbage served at the long-standing Inne on parade day, in addition to the veteran eatery's regular menu, which includes dishes such as steak au poivre, broiled shell steak, fried shrimp, shrimp cocktail, chili and onion soup.

Molly Malone's $$

124 Maple Ave., Bay Shore, 631-969-2232,

Lamb stew, beef stew, corned beef and cabbage and prime rib highlight the parade-day fare. The regular menu includes prime rib, potato-leek soup, Irish egg rolls filled with corned beef, and tilapia St. Patrick, pan-seared and sporting a ginger glaze.

T.J. Finley's ($-$$)

42 E. Main St., Bay Shore, 631-647-4856,

T.J. Finley's has a major beer list and, on parade day, green beer will be added to it. Jameson Irish Whiskey competes. Also expect Irish music. On the table, it's corned beef and cabbage, corned beef sandwiches and the regular menu, which brings in pub fare from stuffed pretzels to sliders.

Finley's of Greene Street $-$$

43 Greene St., 631-351-3440

Finley's, a downtown mainstay, will be pouring standbys Guinness and Harp. You can pair the Irish brews with parade-day dishes that will include corned beef and cabbage, a corned beef-and-cabbage sandwich, hamburgers and both grilled chicken and filet mignon sandwiches.

Meehan's of Huntington $-$$

371 New York Ave., 631-351-0831,

Lamb-and-beef stew, bangers-and-mash, corned beef and cabbage and corned beef on rye bread are among the specials slated for parade day. Meehan's regular menu includes Tipperary chicken, with chardonnay sauce, baked salmon with a horseradish crust, Guinness-batter fried shrimp, burgers and waffle fries.

Rocky Point

DEKS American Restaurant $$

605 Rte. 25A, 631-821-0066,

This local landmark is situated in one, too; the Hallock House dates to 1825. On parade day, visitors can expect corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie made with lamb, sausage bangers and mashed potatoes, as well as corned beef sandwiches and hot dogs, pretzels and sodas at an outdoor stand. Guinness will be poured, too.

Gracie's $-$$

Broadway at Prince Road, 631-821-2079,

The offerings will be more limited on parade day, with corned beef and cabbage, hot dogs and Reuben egg rolls. But in the days before and after the parade, the choices will include corned beef and cabbage, lamb stew, shepherd's pie, bangers and mashed potatoes.

J & R's Steak House $$

181 Rte. 25A, 631-744-2101,

Diners on parade day and on St. Patrick's Day can dive into corned beef and cabbage and boiled potatoes, and for the entire month, a special that includes a pint of beer with a corned beef sandwich. The regular menu, heavy on steaks, chops, chicken, ribs, and combination plates, also will be available.

Rockville Centre

Cannon's Blackthorn $$

49 North Village Avenue., 516-594-1222,

Every day is St. Patrick's at this festive restaurant. Regulars come for corned beef and cabbage egg rolls, Dublin Cheddar potato croquettes, sirloin-and-lamb shepherd's pie, braised lamb shank, fish-and-chips made with cod, chicken potpie and steak-and-mushroom pie.

Churchill's $$

18 S. Park Ave., 516-766-2500.

They're celebrating with a special St. Patrick's menu at Churchill's from March 12 to March 19. The additions include corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie with beef, grilled salmon with lemon-and-dill sauce, fish-and-chips made with cod, and corned beef sandwiches. The eatery's regular menu includes pot roast and prime rib.
