New to Merrick is the Sunset Bar & Grill, a casual spot that’s both family-owned and geared to families.
Chef co-owner Bill Kruse formerly cooked at Mercato Kitchen & Cocktails in Massapequa; he graduated from the Suffolk Community College Culinary Arts Program in Riverhead. On his American menu: sauteed mussels ($10.95), a classic burger ($10.95) and fish and chips ($16.95).
Bill’s sister, Jamie Kruse, manages the place which, while near the water, doesn’t offer a water view. What it does offer is an outdoor dining patio with foliage and a tiki bar.
