At the sleek, new Mio Sushi & Steakhouse in East Northport, the clanging of knives from 11 hibachi tables resounds throughout the dining room. But you can also forego the communal experience and order items from the sushi bar or kitchen, opting for seating at a table or booth. The capacious restaurant makes its home in the space formerly occupied by both Rite Aid and Torcellos Restaurant.
Co-owner Steve Chen, whose brother, Tony Chen, is chef, said the name of the place — which seems Italian — is actually a Japanese word signifying beauty. Chen went on to point out some distinguishing features of the dining spot. For one thing, he said, Mio serves a variety of Japanese craft beers. There’s also a section on the menu for skewered items, among them bacon-wrapped scallops ($6) and Japanese sausage ($4). You can get live lobster, available as sashimi ($20), as well as live geoduck clam ($20 a half dozen). Also, foie gras, served with filet mignon ($27).
Other menu items include king crab and lobster pizza ($14), grilled beef short rib ($10), a Chilean sea bass roll ($15), a salmon avocado roll ($5.50), sushi and sashimi ($24 for one; $48 for two), miso black cod ($25) and Angus steak hibachi ($20).
