Returned to CoolFish in Syosset, the flagship in Tom Schaudel's current two-boat armada, spurred by 100-plus degrees and the "chocolate bag."
This free-standing spin on the sundae, with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce atop bananas, all encased in a chocolate container, has been part of the Schaudel repertoire since the long-ago Downtown Grille in Montauk. It's still refreshing and fun.
These days, what comes before at CoolFish is very good, too. Try the pulled-pork quesadilla or the crab cake, the juicy grilled sirloin or the sesame-seed crusted yellowfin tuna.
You could consider an upside-down apple tart. Maybe the creme brulee. But this week, it's all in the bag.
