It just might be a beautiful weekend, so here’s some places to try if you’re out and about:

From Fine Dining critic Peter M. Gianotti

red/bar brasserie likes the lower case in name and the upper echelon in dining. It’s a long-time Southampton hangout, but welcoming to all visitors. Try the local oysters mignonette, steamed mussels, grilled octopus, horseradish-crusted local cod, sauteed black sea bass, the grilled New York strip steak with pommes frites and herb aioli, the crackling pork shank, and profiteroles.

Highway Restaurant & Bar in East Hampton introduces a new cocktail menu for the season, courtesy of Mark Noonan of The NoMad Bar in Manhattan. Noonan said he has created a menu of “refreshing, easy-drinking” cocktails – “drinks to make you forget you’ve just spent three hours in traffic to get here”— using fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in the Hamptons. Look for drinks like the rum-based Sagaponack Sling, with honeydew and coconut and Hot on the Highway with spicy tequila, mezcal and Lillet. On weekends in particular, expect to see Noonan behind the bar.

The restaurant at Jude Thaddeus Marina in Glen Cove has changed hands five times since 2010 (the most recent incarnation, Boca, lasted less than a year), but what never changes is that this is one of the North Shore’s prettiest waterside dining spots. At The Cove, new for 2016, stick to the basics while you soak up the sun — or the sunset — on the spacious patio: Any bottle of beer, glass of wine, plate of oysters or bucket of steamed clams will taste just fine while you watch the boats bobbing in the marina, or making their way home from Hempstead Bay.
