The future of burgers on Long Island

Word has just reached us that Shake Shack, Danny Meyer’s burger-frank-and-frozen-custard chain, plans to set up shop at 900 Old Country Rd. in Westbury in late 2012. The first Shake Shack opened in 2004 in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park and has had lines out the door every day since. Five more Shake Shacks in New York City have opened to raves, as well as ones in Miami, Washington, D.C,, Westport, Ct., Dubai and Kuwait City. Kuwait before Westbury? We’re not going to take offense.

Much more immediately, Bobby Flay's second Bobby’s Burger Palace on Long Island, this one in Roosevelt Field mall, is scheduled to open the week of Dec. 6. We'll keep you posted. Bobby’s Burger Palace in the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove earned two stars from Joan Reminick, who loved the signature crunch burger with potato chips and the chocolate malted.
