Asian fusion has scored another victory over Italian in the Long Island restaurant wars. The One Sushi and Asian Bistro takes over the Amityville spot that was once Bellissimo Ristorante, which closed in 2014.
The free-standing Mediterranean-style building has been refurbished within, though the dining room retains its Italianate origins. The sushi bar and, up a few steps, lounge have a clubbier, neon-accented vibe.
The One’s sushi menu ranges from classic rolls (hovering around $5), “house design special roll” such as fantastic roll (eel, avocado, spicy crunchy tuna, spicy crunchy crab, tobiko and scallion, $14), Amityville roll (tuna salad, cucumber, avocado, Cajun tuna, scallion and caviar, $14) and X roll (coconut-shrimp tempura, mango, toasted scallop, crab meat and mayonnaise, $16). There are also sushi and sashimi entrees (around $20).
From the kitchen, all manner of Asian appetizers ($6 to $9) and mains, including teriyaki, tempura, pan-fried noodles, noodle soups, bento boxes and curries. Most mains are less than $20, with many less than $15. Lunch specials are all $15 or less.
The One Sushi and Asian Bistro is at 330 Merrick Rd., Amityville, 631-598-2229, theonesushi1.com
