The home decór and outlet stores along Voice Road in Carle Place have a new neighbor: An immaculate patisserie and coffee shop, The Vanilla Bean Bakery & Espresso Bar.
The café opened recently in the strip mall shared by the Bass Factory Outlet and Big Lots, and sports an ultramodern white interior, a Lamarzocco espresso machine and glass cases displaying pristine desserts as if they were jewels.
The Vanilla Bean’s cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes and puddings are created on premises by Aida Antoun, a self-taught baker with an apparent crush on Nutella; on a recent day, Nutella-filled cupcakes, cookies, and brownies filled the case, along with banana pudding, cheesecake, fudgy slices of Death by Chocolate cake, and an entire strawberry shortcake iced with vanilla cream. Prices range from $2 for cookies and $5-$6 for slices of cake, to whole cakes for $22-$45.
Antoun co-owns the cafe with her husband Emad Antoun, who has managed restaurants in the New York area for 14 years. He said the couple feels passionately about sourcing premium ingredients, such as Swiss chocolate or the Madagascar vanilla beans that go into all of the desserts. “We test everything,” before offering it for sale, he said.
The Antouns source their coffee — a nutty, medium roast of Brazilian, Colombian and Mexican beans — from a Brooklyn roastery they prefer not to name. You can grab a cup to go or settle into one of a handful of tables, which also have table service. Alongside their sweets, which change daily, the Antouns offer a savory menu of salads and sandwiches, such as a truffled egg-salad sandwich or prosciutto and burrata baguette. Prices range from $5-$7.
The Vanilla Bean is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. except Sunday, when it closes at 7 p.m.
