It’s a six-star week here at Newsday, with both our critics awarding three stars. Joan Reminick visits New Hyde Park’s Southern Spice, a transplant from Flushing, that serves the cuisine of India’s Chettinad region, “as fiery as it is nuanced.”

Peter Gianotti reviews Insignia in Smithtown, the latest venture from Anthony Scotto, which “swaggers into town with headliner confidence and showstoppign cost.” The restaurant’s scale “makes his Rare650 in Syosset and Blackstone Steakhouse in Melville look like monasteries and sound like cloisters."
