In this week’s Newsday, Peter Gianotti visits Kashi Sushi & Steakhouse in Rockville Centre, “scion of Kashi in Huntington, which on some nights has the beat of a club plus the rhythm of a restaurant.” The “jazzy newcomer,” he writes, “adds hibachi cooking to an already lively mix .?.?. but, as at the first Kashi, sushi and sashimi, with some New American additions, are the primary reasons to eat here.”

Joan Reminick reviews Tao in Syosset, which takes over the Syosset space long occupied by Empire Szechuan Gourmet. “Given Long Island’s dwindling collection of old-school Chinese restaurants,” she writes, “there’s comfort to be taken in the opening of Tao.“ While you can “hook up with a spicy tuna roll or a plate of pad Thai, General Tso and his battalion of classics clearly rule.”
