No need to go crying in your World Cup or brooding over LeBron. Try beach-time instead. And maybe stop at one of these summery spots for a good meal.

Past and present commingle at Race Lane, the new eatery that took over the stylish Hamptonian address once occupied by the Laundry and, recently, by The Lodge. Race Lane sends out American dishes, with a seasonal accent. Dive into the raw bar, nibble on a fish taco, sample scallop carpaccio, lobster salad, macaroni and cheese (with bacon or lobster), burger and fries. Stonewalls, the fine restaurant at the Cherry Creek Golf Course in Riverhead, prepares a lively, a la carte Sunday brunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Choices include omelets, French toast, Idaho brook trout amandine, North Fork duck pate and foie gras, baked clams,  Crescent Farm duck au poivre, soft-shell crabs meuniere and outstanding crab cakes. Stonewalls is at 967 Reeves Ave., Riverhead; 631-506-0777.

And in Long Beach, try Nick's Tuscan Grill. The successor to Nick Diangelo is a spirited eatery with very good Italian fare. Enjoy the fontina-meatball poppers, roasted chicken with rosemary-flecked potatoes, garlicky shrimp, and lush braised short ribs. The essential dessert, especially in July, is the brownie sundae.
