Weekend picks: Bracing for the holiday rush

Here are three restaurants that should get you in training for the holiday rush. Consider them establishments to brace you for Black Friday.

Long Fin in East Meadow is a hideaway on a main road, The eatery lures you with seafood. There's plenty of variety. Try the crisp Buffalo shrimp, accompanied by chile sauce and blue cheese dip; the fried oyster po'boy on toasted ciabatta; steamed shrimp dumplings; steamed lobster. Carnivores: Black Angus cheeseburger.

Grand Lux Cafe in Garden City is situated at Roosevelt Field. You'll easily locate the big, flashy spot. The menu is a something-for-everyone combo, from burgers and sandwiches to main dishes that include pot roast, chopped steak, fried chicken, and, for a hint of Asia, "shaking beef." Warm apple pie and pineapple upside-down cake are among the sweets.

Bobby's Burger Palace in Lake Grove is the local branch of superstar chef Bobby Flay's chainlet. The burgers include the L.A. (with avocado relish), the Napa Valley (with goat cheese and lemon-honey mustard) and the Crunchburger (yes - capped with potato chips), November's burger-of-the-month is a Brunch Burger, complete with American cheese, bacon and a fried egg.
