Jake's Steakhouse is the newest and brightest light for dining out on Hempstead Turnpike. It beefs up eating out in the neighborhood with a thick, juicy porterhouse for two, shell steak, filet mignon with blue cheese, and short ribs. Also recommended are the wedge salad and applewood-smoked bacon with fingerling potato salad. The kitchen also prepares a fine seafood stew.
Pastrami Plus will brace you for any chill with soups, sandwiches, salads and more. The overstuffed East Meadow combo, for example, is hot pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing. Sample stuffed cabbage, corned beef and cabbage, pierogies, roast turkey, hot dogs, knishes, and maybe wash them all down with an egg cream or two.
Mama Theresa's specializes in Italian-American staples. This is a chainlet with branches in Westbury and Garden City Park as well as East Meadow.
