I wasn’t prepared to have my sandals knocked off by the pork ribs served at a pizza chain, but that was just one of many surprises at the new Woodbury branch of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. The Florida-based chain is known mainly for its traditional (tomato and cheese) and specialty pies (like Philly cheesesteak or meatball-and-ricotta) baked in a coal-fired oven.
The restaurant (with a branch in Carle Place) also uses its coal oven to roast the ribs with garlic, rosemary, spicy vinegar peppers and white wine. This produces pork both tender and boldly seasoned, imbued with a quality as home-style as it is sassy. A “small” order (six ribs) is $9.95; a large one (12 ribs) is $16.95.
Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza of Woodbury is at 8063 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury
