Last winter's record snowfalls tested your driving skills. Perhaps you should be thinking about a refresher course in driving before this winter arrives.
AARP's Driver Safety course is offered at scores of places on Long Island. The six-hour classroom course includes lessons on techniques to minimize blind spots, the effects of various medications on driving ability and ways to safely change lanes and make left turns.
Completing the course can make you a safer driver, but there's a fringe benefit: It could reduce your car insurance premiums. The course is $25, but if you're an AARP member you pay $20.
AARP is also offering an online version of the course you can take at home. The price is $30, or $26 for AARP members.
