The holiday shopping season is over, but a fresh new year of bargain hunting has begun. And when it comes to saving money, timing is everything.
Consumer advice website lifehacker.com has collected an extensive list it calls "The Best Time to Buy Anything Year Round." The list is constantly updated and revised.
For example, when the icy January winds blow, it's a good time to buy gas grills and air conditioners because they are off-season. You should also find good deals on clothing, especially winter wear, and linens. And carpeting and flooring are often on sale because many people do home upgrades before the holidays, so retailers have a lot of leftover stock and are motivated to lower their prices. Come February, plan on an excursion to Manhattan. Tickets to many Broadway shows tend to be discounted.
