If there's an old, unused bike taking up space in your garage, you can help make someone else's life much better.

The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Long Island is holding a bike donation event next Saturday, May 10, at the King Kullen shopping center at 856 Middle Country Rd. in Middle Island. Bikes will be given to Pedals for Progress, a nonprofit organization that partners with other charities in developing nations.

Bikes should be rust-free, but they needn't be in perfect condition. (They can have flat tires, for example.) No tricycles are accepted. If you donate, you also will be asked for a $10 tax-deductible contribution to help pay the cost of shipping the bike overseas.

The bike donation will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, call 516-606-1400 or 631-549-4873.
