Boomers, seniors dominate Oscar nominations

Hollywood may target the youth market, but when the best acting Oscars are handed out tomorrow, odds are they will be in the clutches of a boomer or a senior.

Three of the best actress nominees are members of the Act2 generation: (Sandra Bullock, 45; Helen Mirren, 64; and Meryl Streep, 60), along with four of the five best actor nominees (Jeff Bridges, 60; George Clooney, 48; Colin Firth, 49; and Morgan Freeman, 72).

If you want to see a good film but the Oscar-nominated choices don't move you to the multiplex, why not stay home and turn back the movie clock - by 40 years.

The five best movie nominees from films released in 1970 are still widely available and hugely entertaining. The Oscar winner, "Patton," can be found on the shelves of many local libraries or rental stores.

The other nominees from 1970 -- "Airport," "Five Easy Pieces," "Love Story" and "M*A*S*H" - could round out your weekend movie festival.
