David Cassidy to perform in Massapequa

Are you the grandmother or aunt of a teen or preteen girl who goes nuts for One Direction or Justin Bieber? Does her behavior seem familiar? Remember when you were the same way about your singing idol crush?

The passion created by today's pop stars are a close match to the fervor created 45 years ago by David Cassidy. The singer and actor became a sensation on the TV series "The Partridge Family." His live concerts in the early 1970s often elicited an almost hysterical reaction from girls in the audience.

It may not turn into "Cassidymania" of years gone by, but the actor-singer is starring in a free concert at John Burns Park in Massapequa. C'mon get happy, Saturday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m., weather permitting.
