They call it the Great American Songbook for a reason. These songs, mostly from the 1920s-1950s, have never gone out of style. Some may have been the soundtracks of your childhood, others probably shaped the musical tastes of your parents and grandparents and may have been passed along to you by osmosis.

Pianist Stan Wiest, of Fort Salonga, who has lovingly performed these standards for years, will explore the Great American Songbook in a free concert at Long Beach Library. Wiest will also play selections from his CD "Music to Drive By." But there's more than music. Wiest will take questions from the audience and tell anecdotes about the musical greats he's played with and performed for.

The concert is Sunday, Sept. 13, 1:30-3 p.m. at Long Beach Library's main branch on West Park Avenue. For more information, call 516-432-7201.
