Social Security celebrated its 80th anniversary earlier this month, and to mark the occasion the agency has created a special website. "Celebrating the Past and Building the Future" presents a collection of facts about the program along with reflections on notable milestones. There are scores of historic photos, including one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing the law that made Social Security a reality on Aug. 14, 1935.
For trivia buffs, the site has a section to test your knowledge of the program that has paid out more than $15 trillion in benefits over the past 80 years. There is also an area where you can share your story about Social Security and read the stories of others.
