Study: Technology is making us smarter as we age

You're not only getting older, you're also getting smarter.

While every older adult worries about cognitive decline, new research found that people 50 and older are scoring higher on tests designed to show intellectual abilities compared to adults 50 and older in past generations. The reason: modern technology.

The Austrian study said older adults' growing use of computers and the Internet has made life "cognitively more stimulating." While most people suffer some cognitive decline as they age, researchers note that "cognitive functioning" is less associated with chronological age, and using technology may keep the brain sharper.

Also helping is the interaction with your smartphone. The researchers said it appears that the brain is stimulated by the use of touch screens on mobile devices.
