Tip: High-tech ways to track diabetes

Living with diabetes means more than just watching what you eat. You must keep track of carbohydrates and medications and be vigilant about exercise, blood pressure and your weight. Lose track of any of these factors, and managing diabetes can quickly become unmanageable.

For those with smartphones or iPads, there are several free apps that can help to stay on top of the disease. Two of the most popular and highest-rated by users are OnTrack (gexperts.com, for Android phones) and Glucose Buddy (glucosebuddy.com, for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch). Both apps let you enter and track critical items including blood glucose, food intake and medications. Your history can be displayed in various graphs and tables, or you can print the results to share with your health providers.
