Hold on: Only one more week of winter. It won't be long before you go from shoveling your walk to digging in your garden. One good way to shake off winter's frost is to attend a Long Island rite of spring: the 20th annual Flower and Garden Show at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury.
There are several gardening seminars scheduled that can help green up your frostbitten thumbs. The show runs through March 21. Hours Monday-Thursday are 8 a.m.- 6 p.m.; Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
If you'd like to reap what someone else has sowed, there will be "Cooking From the Garden" demonstrations and tastings presented by top Long Island chefs beginning Monday and running every day through Friday, 11 a.m.-noon.
The show, seminars and cooking demonstrations are all free. To see the schedule of events, go to hicks nurseries.com or call 516-334-0066.
