The New Year isn't even a day old, but you can claim it for a Nassau resident who has made a difference.
The county is accepting nominations for Senior of the Year, an annual award given to the person who has "made outstanding personal contributions to enrich the lives of others."
Candidates must be Nassau residents at least 60 years old who have helped others "through commitment to community service." Nominations can be made by individuals or groups.
For more information about eligibility requirements and to get an official nomination form, call 516-227-8987. Nomination forms must be postmarked by Feb. 19. The award will be handed out at a luncheon at the Long Island Marriott on May 13.
