Westbury workshop tells seniors how to avoid scams

Older adults are prime targets of scammers, but you can avoid becoming a victim.

Learn how to spot con artists and how to protect yourself at a free seminar at Westbury Library. The seminar, presented by Project SAFE (Seniors Against Financial Exploitation), brings together a panel of experts, including local government officials, police, lawyers and financial-industry professionals. The seminar will include a discussion on Medicare frauds and scams, where, for example, seniors receive a phone call from a con artist who tells them they need a new Medicare card but first must provide information such as their Social Security number.
