Rich cribs: Roller hockey in the basement

There's an unexpected feature at a stately French Manor style home on the market for $3,955,555 in Old Westbury -- try a roller hockey rink.

Seller Douglas Slayton, a commercial real estate developer who designed and built the home in 2008, built the rink in the basement for his sons, now 6 and 8 years old. Measuring 20 by 45 feet, the rink has a vinyl composition tile floor, "the same stuff as in a supermarket, really smooth and good for Rollerblading, and it can take a beating," Slayton says. "The boards (walls) are the same as a professional (ice) hockey rink."

Slayton and his wife, Danielle, designed the 6,000-square-foot home with a stone exterior and a slate roof. Listed with Mollie Grossman of Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, the manse is on 2.18 acres with six bedrooms, five baths, two half-baths, a basement-to-second-story spiral staircase and a mahogany library. -- VIRGINIA DUNLEAVY

Twenty-two undeveloped acres in Lloyd Harbor have just come on the market. The property -- which belongs to a baroness -- has been divided into three lots that can be purchased separately, in various combinations or all together. The parcels, two of which are waterfront properties, range from 2 to 12 acres. They are priced from $999,000 to $6,499,999, or for a total price of $11 million.

The Lutron home control lighting system in one Oyster Bay Cove home -- listed for $2.75 million -- requires only one press of a button to activate.

The owner says that from his bedroom and iPhone or iPad, he can make every light in the house go on, off or dim. If the basement lights are left on, they automatically go off in a few minutes. If someone comes into the laundry room, it "knows" that his hands are probably full and the lights go on. When someone pulls into the garage at night, the lights flick on immediately. If the alarm goes off, all the house lights flash to alert the police.

This 6,700-square-foot, Hamptons-style Colonial, which was built in 2006, is on 2 acres. There are two fireplaces, eight bedrooms, 81 / 2 baths, an upstairs gym and a temperature-controlled 2,000-bottle wine cellar.

It is listed with Shawn Elliott's Cheryl Goldman. -- GIGI BERMAN AHARONI
