As "Dancing With the Stars" returns Monday for its eighth season, here are five things you may not know (or remember) about the popular ABC show:
The first person ever to be eliminated on "DWTS" was "Bachelorette" star Trista Rehn, who got the ax on the second episode of season 1 (June 8, 2005). (Her partner was Louis van Amstel.)
During the show's first season, Tom Bergeron's co-host was Lisa Canning, formerly of "Entertainment Tonight." Samantha Harris replaced her for
season 2 and has been with the show ever since. ("A decision was made to go in a different direction," an ABC spokesman said at the time.)
The lowest score in the show's history was an 8 by rapper Master P, dancing a paso doble with Ashly DelGrosso on the fourth episode of season 2 (Jan. 27, 2006). That the lead-footed P even managed to last four weeks was attributed to his strong fan base.
On the show's 100th edition (May 6, 2008), the judges named their top 10 perfect-scoring dances of the first five seasons. Their No. 1 choice: Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff's tango on week 9 of season 3 (Nov. 8, 2006).
The most-watched episode, according to Nielsen Media Research, was part two of the season 3 finale (Nov. 15, 2006), when 27.29 million viewers tuned in.
