From the red carpet to the aisle, this season is all about sophisticated, feminine details, from pretty pleating, to textured tulle to rippling ruffles. The effect is volume and movement, in billowy, fluttery layers. If the stars can rock it, so can you.

The looks range from ultra-girly to edgy, as the uniform undulations from seasons past are replaced with asymmetry and texture. "I used a restrained kind of freedom to this dress and yet it's also controlled imperfection," Vera Wang told Newsday about her bridal gown of swirling pleated organza. "I love things that have a sort of random accidental quality and involve thought."

Romantic and flowing, Francesco Fino's tiered gown of silk voile satin and lace ruffles was inspired by his view of the rolling gentle waves on the Sardinian beaches during last summer's vacation.

Whether they grace the neckline (see Pnina Tornai's cascading ruffled lace gown), the skirt (Ines Di Santo, Platinum, Rivini) or the entire gown, this season's modern flounce is sure to attract the paparazzi.
