New American, Italian, Wine bar
For non-locals who traverse between Greenport and Riverhead, it is always interesting to find the solid restaurants nestled in along Main Road. One of those finds is A Mano, an osteria that at first glance seems a simple stop--but upon exploration the venue unfolds into a converted house equipped with a sunbathed terrace that feels more Hamptons-trendy than North Fork-rustic. The menu opens with appetizers like personal pizzas, tomato-mozzarella plates, antipasti (such as charred octopus, steamed mussels, seared tuna) and salads (including watercress, roasted beet, watermelon). The cuisine is obviously contemporary in style, and this personality extends right through to the entrées--where grilled diver scallops, pork tenderloin and roasted duck breast help move the kitchen's identity from implied Italian to American nouveau.

A lively osteria on the North Fork led by chef Tom Schaudel, A Mano naturally tweaks the traditional and attracts you indoors and outside. The sunny seats look onto Main Road. Tasty pizzas, pastas, cured meats, cheeses; Berkshire pork tenderloin with white beans ragu and broccoli rabe, grilled diver scallops with lemon-artichoke risotto; a delectable almond-olive oil cake, and "il sacchetto di cioccolato," or the restless chef's trademark chocolate bag.
