A nonprofit dedicated to restoring the Sag Harbor Cinema said Wednesday that the theater’s popcorn stand will be named for Billy Joel after the singer donated to its campaign to purchase and rebuild the area icon.

With donations from Joel, director Martin Scorsese, producer Harvey Weinstein and others, the Sag Harbor Partnership has raised $2 million in its effort to restore the cinema that was destroyed in a December fire, officials said in a news release.

Actress Julie Andrews has also joined the nonprofit’s advisory board.

The Sag Harbor Partnership signed a contract on April 6 to buy the property from longtime owner Gerald Mallow. But for the deal to go through, the contract’s terms stipulate the nonprofit must have the majority of the $8 million asking price in pledged donations by July 1.
