Rose Girone was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Poland. She wed Julius Mannheim (now deceased) in 1938 and moved to Germany. In 1939 they moved to Shanghai, where Rose started a knitting business. In 1947 they settled in Manhattan. She worked for Goldman's Yarn Store in Brooklyn, at a knitting shop in Florida and at a knitting concession at the Sagamore Hotel upstate. She moved to Forest Hills and opened a shop, retiring in 1980. She wed Jack Girone in 1968 and was widowed in 1989. She volunteered at Open Door Knitting Shop in Great Neck from 1980 to 1990 and at the Knitting Place in Port Washington, where she visits weekly. She celebrated her birthday at the Knitting Place and on a cruise. She spends time in Merrick with her daughter, Reha, son-in-law, Frank Bennicasa, granddaughter, Gina, and Gina's husband, Joe Gallart.
