Anthony Pancella’s brother hired at new Islandia casino

The brother of Suffolk Off-Track Betting Corp.’s vice president Anthony Pancella has turned up with a new job as operations supervisor for Jake’s 58, the new slot casino in Islandia.

Pancella confirmed his brother Joseph Pancella, of Dix Hills, was hired.

Pancella said his brother worked for Suffolk OTB for four years before he came to the agency in 2011, but was laid off in an OTB downsizing as part of the agency’s bankruptcy in 2012.

“The real story is that I was so into my job that I let my bother be laid off during our bankruptcy,” said Pancella.

Asked if he recommended his brother for the Jake’s 58 job, the OTB vice president said, “They asked for people who had experience with gaming machines and he had that experience.” OTB has a system of betting machines in local bars known as Qwik Bets.

Anthony Pancella, who also is Babylon Republican chairman and vice chairman of the Suffolk GOP, quipped that his brother’s new job will make family conversation at holidays less tense. “It makes for a better Thanksgiving when you’re hiring someone rather than laying them off,” he said.

Anthony Pancella said he did not know his brother’s salary.

Glenn White, a Delaware North spokesman declined to disclose the salary, saying it is against company policy to release private information about employees.
