Republican Suffolk Legis. Rob Trotta wants to ax Justin Meyers as a $144,594 assistant county police commissioner, saying Meyers really is working as a campaign consultant to help Police Commissioner Timothy Sini’s run for district attorney.

Noting that Meyers’ resume details his experience consulting on 100 political campaigns, Trotta’s resolution states, “The Assistant Commissioner of Police . . . is using his campaign experience to effectively be a campaign consultant, not an Assistant Police Commissioner, rendering the position nonessential for fundamental Police Department operations.”

Noting the county’s “challenging fiscal condition” and the need for more police, Trotta said Meyers’ salary could be better used to pay annual salaries of three new police officers.

Meyers said, “I can understand how Rob Trotta is confused. There are two Justin Meyers — one spelled Myers who does run Tim Sini’s district attorney race. And the other Justin Meyers runs the communications department for the police department.”

Meyers said if Trotta “is interested in getting his facts straight and learning how we operate . . . he is more than welcome to act professionally and pick up the phone.”

Trotta, of Fort Salonga, said he was aware of the difference, saying “I’m not confused at all.”
