All lanes of the Long Island Expressway have reopened after the highway was briefly closed in both directions in Lake Success and North Hills Wednesday afternoon after a tractor trailer overturned, officials said.

The highway reopened by 5:45 p.m., well into rush hour.

“There are a lot of residual delays,” a Nassau police spokeswoman said.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. between Exit 34, New Hyde Park Road, and Exit 32, Little Neck Parkway, according to police and informny.com, the state Department of Transportation website.

The tractor trailer hauling gravel overturned and went through the center median, part of it winding up in the eastbound HOV lane. Gravel spilled onto the roadway.

The driver was injured and was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the police spokeswoman said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
