Cops: More than 100 DWI-DWAI holiday weekend arrests

More than 100 drivers on Long Island were arrested on charges of drunken driving or driving while ability impaired by drugs over the Memorial Day weekend, police said.

Police said that, all told, 112 drivers were arrested in Nassau and Suffolk. That number does not include arrests made by State Police or town, village and city police.

Sixty of the arrests were in Nassau, made between 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday. Another 52 drivers were arrested by Suffolk police between 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear how the arrest figures in Nassau compare to the same holiday period in 2011. In Suffolk, the numbers showed a slight increase over 2011, when Suffolk police said 46 arrests were made during the same time.
