105 arrested in DWI stops over Fourth of July weekend, LI cops say

County police on Long Island said they charged 105 people with driving while drunk or under the influence of drugs and alcohol during the extended Fourth of July weekend.

Suffolk officers made 53 such arrests and one for boating while intoxicated from 4 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Nassau officers made 52 DWI arrests between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, with additional patrols partly funded by a state STOP DWI grant, police said.

Last year, when Independence Day was on a Saturday, Nassau police made 18 DWI arrests between Friday night and Sunday morning, while Suffolk made 44 arrests and one for BWI between Thursday afternoon and Sunday morning, authorities said.
